Most hotel towels sit around 400 to 550 GSM; most spa towels start at 800. Six hundred is the weight that feels substantial without needing a window or a heated rail to dry. About the Signature Series, our 600 GSM Egyptian cotton towels
GSM is grams per square meter of fabric, and 600 is the number this whole collection is built around. Our bath towel is 70 x 140 cm (27.5 x 55 in), which is 0.98 square meters, so at 600 GSM it weighs 588 g dry. The bath sheet is 90 x 160 cm (35.4 x 63 in) and 864 g. The hand towel is 35 x 75 cm and the washcloth 30 x 30 cm. Those are the mill's finished sizes, and you can check the weight on a kitchen scale the day the box arrives.
Every piece is 100% long-staple Egyptian cotton, woven at one mill in Sadat City, Egypt, with a zero-twist pile: the yarn is held together during weaving by a soluble filament that washes out, leaving loops of untwisted fiber that wick faster and feel softer than a twisted yarn. The trade-off is a little lint in the first two or three washes, after which the towels settle and keep getting softer. Wash new towels once before use, skip fabric softener, and they will stay that way.
